Guerilla Cabaret is an event dedicated to supporting emerging female artists... We appreciate that writing a full-length play and paying the rent are sometimes mutually exclusive – so we ask for submissions of any length. We don’t care how old you are, we don’t care where you went to school and we don’t care if you know anyone ‘in the business.’ We care how good your work is, we care how different your work is and we care about providing opportunities for those who otherwise might not get them. In a cultural climate where women are increasingly viewed as fragmented body parts, as objects, and as each others competitors, Guerilla Cabaret aims to provide performance space, and a conceptual space, removed from this. Commercial theatre, in order to survive, has to follow cultural trends – we don’t. We want to create a movement of stimulating, exciting and frightening new work, work written by women. Our emphasis is on the creation and maintenance of this movement – it must not be confused with a moment. Guerilla Cabaret is committed to helping female centred charities... Guerilla Cabaret was set up in 2006 by Colette Robert and Katherine M Graham. COLETTE ROBERT is a Los Angeles native currently living and working in New York. She has directed and assistant directed at HERE Arts Center, La MaMa, the Public, the Atlantic, the Culture Project, American Airlines Theater, Joe’s Pub, and in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She is a co-founder of Guerilla Cabaret and a member of At Play Productions. Up next: Harrison Rivers’ WHEN LAST WE FLEW as part of the Fire! New Play Festival. M.A., RADA and King’s College, London. B.A., Yale University. KATHERINE M. GRAHAM is a playwright from London, England. She is currently working between Birkbeck College and RADA on a practical PhD project which interrogates the relationship between Jacobean Revenge Tragedy, feminism and dramatic form. Her first full-length play Reality: A Tragicomedy in Five Acts was performed, as a rehearsed reading, in the RADA bar as part of the Contemporary Writers Network. Katherine is co-founder of Guerilla Cabaret. She works as a DJ and has performed for the BBC, Club Hedonistic, The Candy Bar and The Face Club, among others, and has worked variously as a Lighting Designer and Stage Manager. Katherine also works as a visiting lecturer for the University of Westminster, London. |
